09th October 2024 – An Expert Working Group under the umbrella of the International Cooperation for Convergence of Technical Requirements for the Assessment of Feed Ingredients (ICCF), composed of experts drawn from the ICCF funding members has developed a new guidance document on ‘Feed Ingredient Environmental Risk Assessment (Phase 2)’.
The ICCF Steering Committee adopted the draft Guidance Document for Public Consultation on October 8th, 2024.
The public consultation on the Guidance Document ‘Feed Ingredient Environmental Risk Assessment (Phase 2)’ is now open. Interested stakeholders are invited to provide their comments on the document using the feedback form available under November 8th, 2024.
The draft guidance document provides recommendations to applicants for evaluating further the risk of feed ingredients to the environment, when fed to terrestrial animals, when appropriate, after the initial evaluation based on the Guidance Document on ‘Feed ingredient Environmental Risk Assessment Approach’ published in 2023. It provides an approach to refine the environment exposure to the feed ingredient’s constituents and their metabolites. As appropriate, it describes the necessary studies for estimating the concentration of the feed ingredient’s constituents that does not impact the environment. Based on the quotient ratio (ration of exposure to concentration with no impact), the risk of the feed ingredient is assessed.

About ICCF
The International Cooperation for the Convergence of Technical requirements for the Assessment of Feed Ingredients (ICCF) was created in 2017. It was founded by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Animal Nutrition Association of Canada (ANAC), the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA), the European Commission (DG SANTE)1 and the EU Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and their Mixtures (FEFANA), and the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF). The ICCF aims at developing science-based technical guidance documents supporting the feed industry in assessing their products and to aid in the preparation of pre-market assessment submissions.
